Dickens on Broadway

Today was Dickens on Broadway here in town. This basically just means that activities around town focus on Christmas holiday activities and dress as it might have been in the Victorian time period.

One thing that started last year is that Main Street, with monetary assistance from community churches and individuals, sponsor an exotic animal business to come to town and stage a live nativity, commencing with a parade of the actors and animals down the main street, Broadway. Here are just a couple of photos from the day.

Allison was most intrigued by the camels. She called it the "camel parade." There were also a donkey, goats, sheep, and a cow, along with the three camels. The group paraded up to the Koester House Museum and set up the nativity in the carriage barn.

As we were walking back up the mainstreet, we ran across Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving on the Overland Stage Coach. Allison asked if she could see Santa, and there weren't that many kids at that point, so the timing was good. She told Santa that she wanted a video game and a Dora game.
After leaving Santa and the nativity, we decided to drive up to Blue Springs and pick out our Christmas tree finally. It has been a "tradition" for us since we moved to this house in 2002 to get a real tree. Bruce and I reminisced, of course, of when A was a baby and she was like 6 weeks old and we took her in the cold to get the tree. We had her bundled up like the Michelin baby in her purple down bunting!
