Substitute Teaching

I had a HUGE day on Thursday. I am subbing for the 7th and 8th grade teacher at the school; he is also the principal and has a conference these days. Six or seven years ago I wouldn't have dreamed of enjoying junior high age kids, but I actually usually look forward to subbing for this age at this school....and he's not gone very often...this conference is usually about it. The kids are just really great kids. Oh, sure, they are still kids, but they are really good, well behaved (overall) kids, and plus they've known me now for several years, so that helps. I am there on Friday also. It is Homecoming up at the high school so the schedule is kinda of skewed....lots of band practice, cheerleaders coming around, walking to the parade, band and athletes going here and there....we have maybe a couple of hours of actual school tomorrow. My job will mainly be making sure i have at least an inkling of where everyone is at any given time.

Oh, and then, what made the day so long....because actually "life was good" with getting the sub day over.... but then I had to go to the Library for the Homework Center. I had 1o kids today with a couple of them being new kids, and one of them with some attention issues.... May she just sucked the energy and go-get'ems out of me. She used every section of grey matter that I had available to me in my brain today. I am going to have long days like that when I sub throughout the year, and where the Homework Center is getting more kids this year than it has ever had, I have to be far more creative than I ever have had to be....and I thought the first couple of years were creative! LOL (sigh) I went to bed at 8:48 thursday evening, one minute later than I put Allison to bed!!!! I suppose you add to it that I am 'technically' still in the recovery phase from my surgery last week, too.

I am doing really well. I got a "good news" call from the doctor's office on Wednesday that all of the tests from my surgery came back clean and benign, so I am very, very thankful. Prayer does work! Praise GOD!

I finished all of Allison's birthday party invitations and got them in the mail on Wednesday. Woo Hoo! I need to start making my lists and geting stuff bought for her party. I do have the cake ordered for the kids' party, and the reservation made for the location. That's it!

Oh, one last thing....since I was subbing Thursday, I was at Allison's school on a day when she was there. She was very high strung at the concept that I was going to be "teaching kids" at her school....couldn't quite wrap her mind around it yet. "Where was Mrs. Harries (her teacher) going to be?" etc. I told her that her teacher was going to be there, that I was going to be in another room, etc. She really just didn't quite get it.... so she was very "full of energy". So, what did her teacher have planned for all of the preschoolers to do first thing in the morning? Paint with their feet!!!! I thought OMG! but actually it was just the key....it seemed to be something that almost calmed her....putting her feet in the paint, smooshing it around, painting etc. It was very cute...and they had a great time....
