So after a lot of ... oh, what could it be called...half-speak, we did at least get out of town. I don't think we were really communicating very well with each other, so we are lucky that we even made it past the city limits. We left Tuesday afternoon and headed to Omaha, Nebraska. It's about two hours from here. After some road construction and delays, we made it to the front door of the Orpheum Theater in downtown Omaha about 7:15 p.m. Dora Live was in town March 17, as well as two shows on March 18. We missed the start of this show by 15 minutes. I think DH still wanted Allison and I to make THIS show, but by the time we would have gotten tickets, used the restroom, and sat down the first half of the show would have been almost over. So, I went ahead and bought tickets for Allison and I for the 7:00 Wednesday evening show. So, what to do with the rest of the evening? Did I happen to mention that it was the evening of St. Patrick's Day? We drove through the Old Market area of Omaha, dodging green-haired folks, along with the folks going to the Nickelback concert at the Qwest Center, and the older folks going to some other show that evening, too. There sure was a lot going on that evening, huh?
We ended up giving up on that area, and driving across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and getting a room a few blocks from the casinos. After having a buffet dinner at one of them, Allison and I donned our swimsuits while DH went back to one of the casinos (obviously Allison wasn't old enough for the card games or the slot machines). We had an indoor pool at our hotel, but I suppose it was asking too much for it to be a heated indoor pool! Oh, I suppose it theoretically was probably heated, but man oh man...I thought it was COLD! We did the best we could; and swam until about 10:30 or so. The desk clerk, bless him, didn't say anything to us even though he was supposed to lock up the pool area at 10:00.
So, Wednesday morning we were up looking for things to do with our day. Allison was ready to go swimming yet again, so we did. I was a little braver this time and went ahead and got fully into the COLD pool...brrrrr. There was another mom and daughter there too...the girl was also 4 years old, so that was bonus for allison. Their family had gone to the Dora show the night before and told us it was really good. They were from South Dakota, and had traveled to Omaha for the show, too. "Kristin" and Allison enjoyed their time together.
It was time to move on after being in the pool for about 2 hours! We then decided to take in the Omaha Children's Museum. We had gone a couple of years ago, and I didn't feel that it was as nice as Lincoln's but it was a fun activity to do with Allison. Bruce went to do other things in town. I noticed that things had changed somewhat inside, and I saw a wall hanging that made it look as if there was a "grand reopening" in 2007. It was a lot more fun this time around. Lincoln still has really nice "rooms" of play areas; Omaha seems to have more "creative" exhibits.
Here are a few pictures:
