Sunday Travels with L & B

Sunday finds us in Nashville still. It is a rainy, damp, wet day, but we made the most of it.

First off, I will post some pictures from our Saturday night adventures. This is a picture of Broadway in downtown Nashville. We walked the "main street" so to speak where all the bars and dance clubs are located. I tried to get a photo of Ernest Tubb's Record Shop. You can kinda see the sign...it was about midnight when I took this photo, so it's not too bad, I 'spose.

Earlier in the evening we went to the Wildhorse Saloon. It is a HUGE bar, with three floors. A new band to the national scene, the Zac Brown Band, was playing there, so we decided to go. The tickets were $30 a head at the door, and the bar was packed full of people. We ended up on the third floor, standing in the back, behind a plexiglass wildhorse. The view wasn't great, but we could see the stage, and the music was very good. They are a very good band, and they should have some more popular songs.

The Wildhorse Saloon have these plexiglass horses stationed all over the bar in various poses. Here are two of them stationed at the bar on the second floor, I believe. I of course had to take a photo.

No, this picture is not upside down. Here are some more wild plexiglass horses that are hanging from the ceiling. You feel really really close to them on the third floor, where we were.

And here is a very much zoomed in photo of the Zac Brown Band. They are a 'new' band to the national stage, but it sounds as though they have been a pretty popular regional band for a number of years, perhaps. This is their third album I think Bruce read somewhere.
Today, Sunday ... we decided to drive to the northern part of Nashville, and visit The Hermitage, which is the family plantation home of the 7th president of the United States, Andrew Jackson. We spent several hours there; there was a lot to see. The house was in remarkable condition. It rained on as we drove there, and then stopped, only to start sprinkling on us when we were almost finished touring.
This is a photo looking at the main house, the mansion, from across some of the acreage towards where the slaves would have lived.

This was the original home that Andrew Jackson, and his wife, Rachel, would have lived for the first 17 years of their marriage, before they built the "big house". This was originally a two-story house, converted to a one story to house slaves later on.
When we left The Hermitage, we drove in the rain, and decided not to go to another plantation, since it was raining pretty good. So we drove to the suburb of Franklin. This was a gem. It was a nice little shopping district, and had beautiful victorian style homes, beautifully taken care of with wonderful landscaping, etc. We had dinner at a really good Italian restaurant. We are staying at a hotel at Franklin tonight.
We are planning on doing the Nashville City Greyline Tour tomorrow probably in the afternoon; we are not sure what we are going to do yet in the morning. It probably depends on what the weather is doing.

Tuesday morning we are planning on touring the Tennessee State Museum and probably looking into the State Capitol before we fly out in the afternoon.
